Gopal Krishna Gandhi quit the Raj Bhavan in Kolkata and Jaipur is vacant after the death of former foreign secretary SK Singh. The result is that various people in the race are making rounds of politicians they think will give them a leg-up to the post. Farmers' resounding no to Bt brinjal
It was the biggest line-up of farmers’ organisations and they came to Delhi from all parts of the country with one clear message: they did not want to grow the genetically modified (GM) version of one of the country’s most popular vegetable, the brinjal. The leaders looked mild enough but they said they would resort to “direct action ” if their voice was not heard and they said they represented 200 million farmers in the major brinjal-growing states.

Neil Harvey to head Credit Suisse's Asia asset mgmt biz

Swiss banking major Credit Suisse has said Neil Harvey will run its asset management business in Asia Pacific and emerging markets from February. - Indian stocks becoming less interesting: Credit Suisse - Credit Suisse names Ghosh, Mizuno as VCs - Credit Suisse, Cushman hit with 24 bn property lawsuit - Bharati Shipyard up 5% - "Challenges are more external than domestic" - Positive returns on the cards, but no sharp surge The bank named Harvey as the managing director and head of Asia Pacific and chief of emerging markets for asset management operations with effect from February 1, 2010, Credit Suisse said in a statement. He would be based in Hong Kong and would report to Robert Shafir, CEO asset management and Kai Nargolwala, CEO Asia Pacific. Harvey has rich experience in the Asia Pacific region, he has worked for 10 years in Hong Kong for Credit Suisse before quitting the firm in 2006 to open Bennelong Asset Management. Later, he joined the emerging market powerhouse Renaissance Group. While, Salman Shoaib, has been leading the Credit Suisse"s Asia Pacific asset management business in the last 18 months would become Credit Suisse Head of Corporate Development for the region. Commenting on the appointment Shafir said, "Developing the Asia Pacific region and building out our global emerging markets" offering and clients is core to asset management"s growth strategy across our division and businesses."
