Centre allocates Rs 4,670 cr for backward districts
Government today said it is concerned about development of backward districts and of "BIMARU" (Bihar, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh) states and has allocated Rs 4,670 crore for underdeveloped districts for the 11th Plan period.

Welcome rains in Uttarakhand
Breaking a long dry spell, Uttarakhand and its nearby areas today received rainfall in the plains and snow in the higher reaches of the Himalayas. Experts said the rains, which came after a dry spell of two months, would auger well for the agriculture sector. Anand Sharma, director the metereological department, said light rains had occurred in areas like Tehri, Mukteshwar and Dehra Dun. “The trend may continue for one more day at least in the Kumaon region,” he said.

Mahanadi Coalfields signs pact with NIC, NICSI

Mahanadi Coalfields Limited (MCL) has entered into a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with National Informatics Centre Services Incorporated (NICSI) and National Informatics Centre (NIC) of Government of India for providing e-procurement services to MCL on a long term basis. - Locals demand jobs in Rs 400-crore coal mining project - MCL decision on coal transport to help land oustees - MCL faces tough task to meet coal output target - MCL faces tough task to meet coal output target - MCL observes World AIDS Day - Nalco offers cash incentive for ash disposal The MoU was signed by Kashinath, Deputy Director General, NIC, New Delhi; J R D Kailay, Managing Director of NICSI, New Delhi and A K Singh, Director(technical), MCL in the presence of Ramjee Upadhyay, chairman cum managing director (CMD), MCL. Speaking on the occasion, Upadhyay informed that MCL has started e-procurement from August 15 this year for all the works and services valued at Rs 10 lakh and above. As the e-procurement system has been stabilized in MCL, the same has been made mandatory for all the tenders valued at Rs two lakh and above from December 15 this year. Upadhyaya made a special reference to N K Pradhan, Chief Vigilance Officer of MCL regarding his valuable contribution and guidance in implementing the system of e-Procurement in MCL. He also appreciated the efforts of the e-procurement team of MCL and the whole team of NIC for implementing the e-procurement in MCL successfully. Kailay while addressing the meeting, informed that this is the first MoU of NIC with any public sector undertaking.
