Sensex breaks four-day winning streak
The Sensex today opened at 17,702 mirroring subdued global cues and slipped into the negative terrain within few minutes of trading. Selling in IT and auto shares dragged the markets further into red. The index touched a low of 17,566, down 177 points from the day"s high. The Sensex languished in the red for the rest of the trading session and finally ended at 17,616, down 85 points. The NSE Nifty ended at 5,263, down 19 points.

FIIs net buyers of Rs 3,042 cr in cash mkt today

Domestic institutional investors (DIIs) were net buyers of Rs 322.46 crore today. While DIIs made gross purchases of Rs 1,674.68 crore, gross sales totalled Rs 1,352.22 crore. FIIs were net buyers of Rs 150.80 crore on Friday, January 8, according to data released by Sebi today. While FIIs made gross purchases of Rs 3,268.30 crore, gross sales totalled Rs 3,117.60 crore. Mutual funds (MFs) were net sellers of Rs 157.70 crore on Friday. MFs made purchases of Rs 948.40 crore and sales of Rs 1,106.10 crore.
